Congratulations! You are probably viewing this KB article because you received one of the free laptops from OCC which was made possible by the CARES Act. Here you will find some basic information about your laptop and how to best use it for your classes at OCC.
- These laptops are basic devices with limited processing power. The systems can become sluggish when trying to do video conferencing or playing videos plus multi-tasking by running other programs.
- They were purchased specifically to be used with OCC’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). Visit this link on how to install the required software, Student Software Remote Access - Windows. Once the Horizon Client software is downloaded and installed, you will have access to a virtual machine(VM) with the software needed for your class work. Because the VM is more robust you will have an easier time with multitasking. Please Note: Only the Horizon Client should be running on your laptop to preserve as much resources for the horizon session as possible.
- Your laptop comes with a limited warranty from DELL. To view your warranty or seek assistance with the device, visit Dell's support site, https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us.
- OCC has designated the areas below on each of its five campuses where all students who need Internet access can use the College’s Wi-Fi network between the hours of 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Students will need to follow the College's health and safety guidelines, including taking a health screening, before coming to campus.
