Security and Privacy Enhancements

Security Toolbar Icon for Hosts

Meeting hosts now have access to a Security option (opens in new tab) within the meeting controls toolbar. This menu centralizes Zoom’s in-meeting security settings, including:

  • Locking the meeting
  • Enabling the Waiting Room
  • Managing participant permissions

Hosts can now enable the Waiting Room during a meeting, even if it was not enabled before the meeting began.

For additional information, review Zoom’s blog post (opens in new tab).

Invite Button on the Meeting Toolbar

The option to invite participants to a Zoom meeting is now located at the bottom of the Participants panel.

Meeting ID No Longer Displayed

The meeting ID is no longer displayed in the title bar of the Zoom meeting window.

To locate the meeting ID:

  • Select Participants, then Invite, or
  • Select the Meeting Information icon in the upper-left corner of the Zoom window.

Attendee Attention Tracking Removed

Zoom has removed the attendee attention tracking feature as part of its continued commitment to user security and privacy.

Removal of the Facebook SDK in the iOS Client

Zoom has reconfigured Facebook sign-in functionality. Users can still sign in with Facebook through their web browser.

File Transfers

Third-party file transfers in Zoom Meetings and Chat were temporarily disabled.

Local file transfer functionality remains available in the latest Zoom release. Third-party file transfers and clickable URLs in meeting chat are expected to return in a future update.

Updated Join Flow for the Web Client

By default, users joining a Zoom meeting through the web client are now required to sign in to a Zoom account or create one before joining.

This setting can be disabled by either the Zoom administrator or the user through their Zoom settings.

Join Before Host Email Notifications Enabled

Hosts now receive email notifications when participants are waiting for the host to join a meeting.

Participant Rename Settings

Hosts can now disable the ability for participants to rename themselves during meetings. This setting is available through the Zoom web portal.
