My Courses Widget

Overview

The My Courses widget uses tile-based images to make finding your courses easier. The widget is located on the D2L My Home page below the Announcements section.

D2L automatically attempts to display the courses most relevant to you. Up to 12 course tiles are displayed at one time. Students can also search through current, past, and future courses to manually pin or unpin courses so that the most relevant courses remain visible in the D2L My Courses widget.

Pinning and Unpinning Courses

To pin a course to the My Courses widget, complete the following steps:

1. Scroll to the bottom of the D2L My Home page to locate the My Courses widget.
2. Find the course you want to pin using one of the following methods:
   1. Scroll through the course list until you locate the course.
   2. Use the search feature to find the course.

      Note: The search option becomes available after selecting the View All Courses link at the bottom of the widget.

      
3. Hover your mouse pointer over the course tile. An ellipsis icon appears in the upper-right corner of the tile.
4. Click the ellipsis icon to open the drop-down menu.
   
5. Select Pin from the drop-down menu.

Courses can also be unpinned by selecting the ellipsis icon on a pinned course tile and choosing Unpin.

Recommendation: Unpin courses after each semester ends to help keep upcoming courses easy to find.

View All Courses

Selecting View All Courses in the My Courses widget opens a search window containing a search field and a list of all current, past, and future course enrollments.

Important Notes

• Unpinned D2L courses marked as Closed are removed from the main My Courses widget tile view.
• All current, past, and future enrollments remain available in the View All Courses window.
• Closed courses appear greyed out and cannot be accessed.
• Future courses also appear greyed out and cannot be accessed until the course start date has passed.
• A count of all current, past, and future enrollments appears next to the View All Courses link.

Start and End Dates

The My Courses widget also displays course start and end date information. The information shown on each course tile changes depending on the course status.

Before the official course start date, the course tile displays when the course start date and time.

During the course, the course tile displays the course end date and time.

 

After the course ends, the tile displays the course end date and time along with a Closed label above the course offering name. Closed courses appear greyed out and cannot be accessed.

Searching, Filtering, Sorting, and Advanced Search

Students can scroll through the My Courses widget to locate courses they want to pin. If the course list is lengthy, students can use the Find a Course search field to search by course name, semester, or other identifying information.

Filters

Students can use the Filters and Sort options to narrow search results and quickly locate specific courses.

Available filter options include:

• Semester
• Department
• Roles

Sorting

Students can organize course results using the Sort option.

Available sorting options include:

• Course Name
• Course Code
• Date Pinned
• Last Accessed
• Enrollment Date

Advanced Filtering

The My Courses widget also offers advanced filtering options to further refine course searches.

Advanced search options include:

• Role
• Semester
• Department
• Course Start Date
• Course End Date
• Status (Active or Not Active)

Course Tile Organization

Course tiles in the My Courses widget are organized differently depending on the number of enrollments.

50 or Fewer Enrollments

1. Pinned courses (oldest pinned to newest, from left to right)
2. Current enrollments (newest to oldest, from left to right)
3. Future enrollments (newest to oldest, from left to right)

51 or More Enrollments

1. Pinned courses (oldest pinned to newest, from left to right)
2. The 12 most recently accessed courses
