Overview
The recommended image size for profile pictures is 100 by 100 pixels with a maximum file size of 1 MB (megabyte) or 1024 KB (kilobytes).
The D2L system accepts the following file types for your profile picture: JPG, JPEG, PNG, and GIF.
Here's Why
Profile pictures in D2L appear in a few areas where the largest image size displayed is 100 by 100 pixels. Uploading an image other than 100 by 100 pixels could result in a pixelated image or the image being cropped in a less than desirable way.
Important: The maximum profile file size allowed by D2L is 1 MB. If you attempt to upload a larger file size, it will be rejected by D2L.
Photo Guidelines for your D2L Profile
You may upload a photo of yourself to your D2L Profile. This photo will be displayed in all of your D2L courses in areas such as Discussions and Classlist. Uploading your photo is completely voluntary. Keep in mind that your photo could be copied and disseminated by others.

- Post a professional-looking photo of yourself.
- Don't post images that would embarrass, intimidate, threaten, harass, or create a hostile offensive environment.
- Don't copy and paste or distribute photos of your classmates elsewhere.
Always strive to maintain an environment that reflects mutual respect in the classroom. Photos deemed inappropriate may be removed.
Tips for Your Profile Picture
- Make the picture a head and shoulders shot.
- Select a picture without a 'busy' background; try to avoid including clutter or other individuals.
- Dress appropriately for a professional environment.
- Keep the size of the image small. 100x100 pixels is recommended with a file size less than 1MB.
