Retrieving Stored Passwords from your Internet Browser

Tags password

Internet browsers have the ability to save passwords. These are typically kept in a non-encrypted, plain text format.  It is strongly recommended that you do not use your browser's password saving feature as it is not a secure password manager.

Google Chrome

  1. Go to the Chrome menu button (3 vertical dots, top right corner) 
  2. Click Settings
  3. Select Autofill and passwords
  4. Select Google Password Manager. In this menu, you can see all your saved passwords.
  5. To view a password, click show password button (eyeball image). You will need to enter your computer password.
  6. To remove a saved password, click on the 3-dot menu and choose Remove.
     

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Select the Firefox menu (upper right corner)
  2. Select Passwords
  3. Search or scroll to find the login info you wish to see/change.
  4. To view a password, click on the eyeball image. 
  5. To remove a saved password, click on the Remove button.
     

Safari

  1. Click the Safari menu button (top left of the screen, next to the Apple logo)
  2. Select Preferences or Settings
  3. Choose Passwords
  4. You will be prompted to enter your computer password/Touch ID to see the list of saved passwords.
  5. To view a password, click on it in the list. 
  6. To remove a password, choose it from the list of passwords and select the remove button in the bottom right corner. 
     

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Select 3 dots (...) in top right of the window.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Profiles.
  5. Select Passwords.
  6. Search for the site you are looking for.
  7. Select the eyeball icon to see the password.
  8. To remove select the three dots and select Delete.
